hearts and flowers
When the minty breezes hit South Florida, we carried the orchids inside. I stacked them on the dining room table. They covered it completely, their leafy tendrils snaking over the chairs, as if they wanted to escape their new climate-controled digs.
Along with the flowers, we brought some unexpected visitors---lizards wiggling up the walls and scooting under the cabinet. My cat stalks them all night. When I catch one, I toss them outside and say a quick prayer, hoping they find their way home.
